Artist's Description
Two propellers on a boat are featured in this marine based painting, created in early May 2018. They show signs of wear and tear from the elements of the sea and air, and have large deposits (lime) encrusted over the metal of the propellers and signs of rust. The boat itself, resting on props and blocks of faded wood, is situated in a boat yard in East Southampton. The stern also shows the purple/ blue paint flacking off the hull and rust appearing. The sunshine provides interesting forms and the shadows play over the complex curves of the propeller blades, while the deposits and flaking paint add interesting textures.
The painting is done using acrylic paint on stretched watercolour paper, sized at 16” x 12”.
