This coastal painting was created during May 2017. It features a view from the beach at Hengistbury Head, near the town of Christchurch in Dorset, looking across the English Channel/ Solent to the Isle of Wight. The 'needles' can be seen, which are a row of small but tall rock structures running out to sea on the western side of the Island. In the foreground can be seen the hardy plants and grasses able to survive in the coastal environment, with the light yellow/ grey sand suggesting the activity of cyclists riding through it and leaving distinctive tracks.
The painting is done in oils on an acrylic under-painting, and is sized at 16” x 12” on a paper support.
