Description
Completed in June 2017, this London landscape painting features a London Taxi approaching Trafalgar Square at a set of traffic lights. Nelson's Column is situated in the world famous square and can be seem prominently in the background. Further behind parts of the national gallery can be made out. It is a wet summers day in the city and pedestrians are crossing the road. A young lady tourist completes the busy scene wearing a yellow wax jacket. She was added to the composition along with the pigeons that the are is traditionally famous for. The column was completed in 1843 and stands at 169ft, with the figure of Admiral Horatio Nelson standing on top. The square itself was completed c1840. Another famous landmark is St Martin-in-the-Fields, a church built in the early 18th century, of which the spire can be seen, again in the distance.
This painting was done in oil paint on mounting board and is 23” x 33” approx.
